Cultural Literacy

We believe that reading is vital to the success of African-American children and communities. We also believe that encouraging others to read about their history and culture provides an important connection to something greater than themselves, thereby increasing self-worth and instilling a greater sense of purpose.  We encourage the community to "Read to Remember and Remember to Read!"

African/African-American History

In partnership with Eckerd College and SPC, Legacy-56 will collaborate on a series of lectures in the Spring and the Fall.  In March 2019, we featured the award-winning journalist and documentary producer, Mr. Clennon King, featuring his latest documentary, Fair Game.

Courageous Conversations about Race

As the City of St. Petersburg learns more about tools to help engage, deepen, and sustain courageous conversations about race, Legacy-56 supports and encourages its board and its friends to participate in the Beyond Diversity Seminar offered by the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg.
